From the Bishop

August 19, 2020

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

As you already know, we are in the midst of a crisis right now as we deal with Covid-19, the quest for racial justice and the painful polarization happening in our country.

We are all working very hard to address these very important issues, and yet, we sometimes do not use the greatest resource of all that we have been given:  our most loving and powerful God.

I want to invite you and your congregations to attend a very special time of prayer that we have set aside on Sunday, August 23 at 5 p.m. This time of guided prayer will be on Facebook and YouTube, to allow all Arkansas United Methodists to pray together in unison. Instructions for joining on Facebook are as follows: Go to the Arkansas Conference of the United Methodist Church page found here: https://www.facebook.com/arkansasumc. Find the event “Prayer for Healing” found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/215219253261301Click that you are attending. On Sunday, August 25 at about 4:50pm, you should receive a notification/reminder from Facebook that the live program is about to begin.Stay on the MAIN Facebook page and the video will appear at exactly 5:00pm there – NOT in the EVENT link.If you should have trouble finding it, try refreshing your page and it should be available to see at the top of the posts or under videos.
Together, we will pray for the healing of Covid-19. Together, we will pray for the healing of racism. And together, we will pray for reconciliation and healing from the vast polarization.

I believe in the most Holy power of prayer.  I believe that this is THE time that we need to pray together. I believe that when we join TOGETHER in prayer it will make a difference.

We are people of faith. Join me as we exercise that faith together.

Even if you cannot attend the live prayer, please encourage your church members to take time, wherever they are to stop and pray.
“Whenever two or three of you come together in my name, I am there with you.” ~Matthew 18:20
  God bless you!

Grace and peace,
