Scones 101 with Alison Valderrama

Alison, an award winner baker shares tips and trade secrets on how to make perfect scones.  Below is the recipe and all the kitchen tools you will need to bake along with Alison. 

Tartine inspired buttermilk scones 

  • 2 1/4c (250g) all purpose flour
  • 2tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2tsp salt (I use kosher salt)
  • 1/2 cup (4oz, 1 stick) cold butter
  • 3/4c buttermilk (Can substitute milk plus vinegar) 

Mix ins like chocolate chips, dried fruit, nuts, candied ginger, etc 

Tools needed: large bowl, no mixer required! Baking sheet, fork or silicon spatula
