SPEAK Advocacy During Covid-19

Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act
Our work to SPEAK truth to power, SPEAKing the love of Jesus Christ into unjust systems, continues during the pandemic. Economic insecurity plagues many Arkansans as they try to make ends meet in the wake of job loss due to COVID-19. The “Emergency Housing Protections and Relief Act” (HR 7301) will be brought to the floor to ensure the following:
- $100 billion in emergency rental assistance
- Uniform moratorium on evictions and foreclosures
- $11.5 billion in Emergency Solutions Grants funding, which will help prevent and respond to outbreaks among people experiencing homelessness.
We have partnered with Family Promise of Pulaski County and the National Low Income Housing Coalition to urge our state leaders to protect Arkansans who are struggling the most. The have made it easy to send a letter to our leaders. You can go to https://tinyurl.com/yadwdu4q to send your own letter. We can feel so helpless during this time, but we can use our voices to help create policy and practices that reflect the Kingdom of God that cares for the flourishing and thriving of our neighbor. If you have any questions, please reach out to Rev. Haley at hjones@fumclr.org.
