Elected Church Leadership Covenant
Simplified Accountable Structure
Being good neighbors to make Little Rock a place where all God’s children THRIVE.
As a leader of First United Methodist Church, Little Rock, I promise to be faithful to Jesus Christ and uphold my vows of United Methodist membership to serve as an example for the entire congregation.
Church Membership Commitment
- Prayers: I will cultivate a consistent prayer life and regularly study Holy Scripture.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” –1 Thessalonians 5: 16-18 - Presence: I will attend worship each week unless I am sick or out of town.
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.” –Psalm 100: 2 - Gifts: I will be a good steward of what God has given me and give financial gifts to First Church in proportion to my income with a tithe being the goal.
“Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” –2 Corinthians 9: 7 - Service: I will serve God by actively participating in at least one ministry of service to FUMCLR and one ministry of mission to the world each year.
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.” –Romans 12: 1 - Witness: I will share the message of Jesus Christ with others through my personal witness both in word and action.
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” –Luke 10: 27
Leadership Commitment for Serving on Church Boards, Councils and Committees
- I commit to serving on a united team that engages in honest discussions where we listen to one another, disagree respectfully, maintain confidentiality where appropriate and support board or committee decisions publicly.
- I will make attending meetings a priority. If I have to miss, I will notify the chairperson in advance. If travel or illness keeps me from attending more than 3 meetings of the meetings, I will relinquish my committee position.
- I will prepare for meetings through prayer and by reviewing materials sent in advance.
- I will hold the good of God’s Kingdom and the church as the priority in all discussions, decisions, and actions of the board/committee.
If at any point I am unable to fulfill these commitments during my committee service term, I understand that the committee chair will notify me and may seek a replacement for my position.
