Join Your Church Leadership in Prayer

Our church is beginning a season of spiritual discernment for how we may meet the challenges most American churches face: less participation, shifting demographics, and increasing community needs. Our church is no exception to these shifts. In embarking on an intentional process, our church leadership understands these shifts. The first step in the process is 6 weeks of prayer. But our prayer isn’t asking God to fix something that’s broken. Our prayer is to listen for God’s voice in the midst of these changes and wisdom to discern how we might respond. The second step is the Board of Steward will be reading the book When Church Stops Working: A Future for Your Congregation Beyond More Money, Programs and Innovation by Andrew Root and Blair D. Bertrand. From our prayers and study, we hope to have more clarity about the next steps.

You are invited to join our leadership in this season of prayer. Each Monday, the members of our administrative committees will receive an email with a short reflection and prayer prompts to use throughout the week. If you’d like to be included in those emails, I would happily add you to the list (email me here to be added dfreeman@fumclr.org) The more people in prayer the better. Every endeavor of our community of faith should be guided by prayer. I hope you’ll join us on this spiritual journey.
