SUMMARY:Three Pastors Walk into a Bar
DESCRIPTION:How do we live as people of faith in 2025? \nWhat does it mean to be the church in the current political climate? \nHow do our faith and beliefs inform our political and social ideology? \nWhat is God calling us to right now? \nThese are the kinds of questions I’ve been batting around with clergy friends of mine recently. Rev. Preston Clegg of Second Baptist\, Rev. Kate Alexander of Christ Episcopal\, and I have been wrestling with what it means to be Christian these days. We haven’t found any definitive answers\, but because our churches are neighbors\, we thought we’d invite our churches to have these conversations together. \nStarting this month\, we’re holding three events for all three of our churches to come together. During these events\, Preston\, Kate\, and I will start with a discussion on our topic and open it up for reflections and questions. We’ll rotate around to each church\, and you’re invited to bring a brown-bag lunch. \nAs we were planning these events\, we said they feel like the start of an old joke\, “Three pastors walk into a bar.” So that’s what we named them. But the title is more than silly–we want this to be informal and filled with personal connection\, like you’re chatting with friends at a bar or coffee shop. Join us for rich connection and to meet our neighbor churches (dates\, times\, topics\, and location listed below). Together\, we’ll experience God’s grace and discover a compelling hope.

SUMMARY:To Us a Child is Born
DESCRIPTION:The Music Ministry of First United Methodist Church is proud to offer in worship To Us a Child Is Born by Johann Kuhnau\, a cantata for choir\, soloists\, strings\, and organ in worship December 7th at 11:00 AM. Johann Kuhnau was the cantor at Thomaskirche\, a position where his successor was the great J.S. Bach. In fact\, for centuries\, musicologists assumed this work (Uns ist ein Kind geboren in its original German) to have been of Bach’s design. Our choir has been hard at work to learn this wonderful piece; you don’t want to miss it!

SUMMARY:Christmas Eve Carols & Communion by Candlelight
DESCRIPTION:All Christmas Eve services originate from the “midnight mass.” It wasn’t until the late 1970s and early 80s that churches started offering services earlier in the evening to be more “family-friendly.” FUMCLR is one of the few churches in Little Rock that still offer a late service on Christmas Eve. Because of this\, we make our 11:00 pm service a unique experience and not just a later version of our 6:00 pm service. We will heighten the sense of awe and mystery.\n\nThis year\, the sanctuary will be lit almost completely by candlelight\, reminding us how the heavenly host of angels broke the darkness\, proclaiming the Good News to the Shepherds. At the end of the service\, we will sing Silent Night on the church’s front steps\, reminding us of how the star announced the birth of Christ to all the world and captured the attention of some wise ones far away. The music and atmosphere will try to capture the intimacy and simplicity of God coming as a humble child.\n\nIf this experience intrigues you\, We hope you’ll join us at 11:00 pm this Christmas Eve. It’s a great opportunity to invite your friends and neighbors. Experience this unique worship that you can’t get anywhere else. Join us in the Sanctuary on downtown Little Rock at 723 Center Street (corner of 8th & Center)\,

SUMMARY:Three Pastors Walk Into a Bar
DESCRIPTION:How do we live as people of faith in 2026? \nWhat does it mean to be the church in the current political climate? \nHow do our faith and beliefs inform our political and social ideology? \nWhat is God calling us to right now? \nThese are the kinds of questions I’ve been batting around with my clergy friends recently. \nLast year\, we started holding events for all three of our churches to come together\, and we have decided to continue them into 2026.

SUMMARY:Wednesday Nights on Center Street
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Nights are a time for our church community to gather midweek for food\, fellowship\, and faith. Each Wednesday evening\, we begin by sharing a meal together at 5:00 pm\, followed by a time of learning or connection at 6:00 pm.\n\nDuring the season of Lent\, we’ll be doing something a little different. Rather than offering multiple groups\, we will come together as one community for a single\, shared experience each week. While the format will vary from week to week\, each gathering is designed to bring us together in meaningful and life-giving ways as we walk through the Lenten season. The exception to this is the Mourner’s Path Group – see below for more information.\n\nThere will also be a change to our dinner plans this season. Dinner will be catered boxed meals at $15 per person\, with reservations required by the Sunday prior to each Wednesday evening. Those who prefer can also bring their own dinner and still be part of the evening. Menus for the first two weeks are listed below.\n\nWe begin with a Pancake Supper and Ash Wednesday Service on February 18\, then continue weekly gatherings starting February 25\, meeting each Wednesday at 5:00 pm for dinner and 6:00 pm for our Lenten program\, through March 18. Below is a listing of what’s planned for each of the four Wednesday evenings.\n\nClick to Register: https://fumclr.ccbchurch.com/goto/forms/190/responses/new\n\nFebruary 25Box Dinner: chicken spaghetti\, green beans\, Caesar salad\, and bread\, gluten-free and vegetarian options available upon request ($15 dollars per person)\nProgram: Get Loud Arkansas- The public advocacy team invites you to a night of faithful action with Get Loud Arkansas. Stress lives in our bodies and doesn’t always go away when whatever induced the stress is gone. Until we process that stress it can keep us feeling exhausted\, edgy\, and disregulated. This session will provide 12 different embodied spiritual practices that help process stress fully while seeking God’s comfort and peace.\n\nMarch 11Box Dinner: Dinner TBA\nProgram: Trivia Night! Trivia Night brings together a variety of topics\, including FUMCLR trivia\, Who Said It? The Bible or Star Wars\, and other fun and unexpected categories.\n\nMarch 18Box Dinner: Dinner TBAProgram: Bingo Night!
