Music + Worship

The music ministry of FUMC strives to be a place for all. From children to adult there is a place for you.

Choirs, bells, bands, community outreach options, you need it, we have it. Along with a passion, we love to be ministers to our congregation. We are the music makers!

Center Street Ringers

The Ministry of Music and Worship Arts is proud of our handbell ensemble Center Street Ringers, formally known as the Sanctuary Bells. This ensemble of handbell ringers is open to all youth and adults who do and do not read music! This group meets at 5:30 pm on Wednesday nights in room 250. Center Street Ringers play throughout the year and ring in all of our services.  Schulmerich and White Chapel bells are used.

Acolyte at First Church Downtown Little Rock

Acolytes

Each year, children and adults are invited to attend acolyte training. Acolytes assist in worship during the 11:00 a.m. worship service and on religious holidays.  Learning how to serve the church is an honor and an important step in each child’s faith development.

The Children's Choir

Children’s choir is for children ages 3 to 5th grade and takes place on the first floor in the Kids Theater room, 138, just down the hall from the casual worship space, First Word, and the gym.  We meet at 9:42 every Sunday morning with Kyle Linson, our Director of Music and Worship Arts.  We are blessed to have access to instruments as well!  We are always reworking old hymns, learning seasonal music or music appreciation in general.  This special time together is not only fun making a joyful noise but a time when we reflect and remember that we are compelled to “Be respectful and Make Good Choices”.  This is a precious song that we sing as a warm up each Sunday and it simply reminds us that we are blessed to be a blessing to ourselves, each other, our church and the world.  The children are often invited to sing in our late worship, First Tradition, especially around the holiday.

First Arts

As a vital component of FUMC’s THRIVE initiative, the First Arts program endeavors to provide quality arts education for downtown children. For ten weeks in the Spring and again in the Fall, our church building transforms each Tuesday and Thursday into a conservatory where students have the opportunity to receive private instruction in music or take classes in visual art and theater. First Arts also partners with the Arkansas Arts Center to enrich the curriculum of Booker Magnet’s fine arts programs. For more information about this exciting and expanding ministry, please contact James Stanley, Associate Director for Music and Arts.
