Celebrating 50 Years of the CDC
This September marks an incredible milestone for the Child Development Center (CDC). The CDC has reached its 50th year of operation. The CDC began in 1969 when members of the Koinonia Sunday School Class felt that our children’s Sunday school classes could be used more than 1 day a week, and they explored the need for a day care center for low-income families. On February 3, 1969, the Commission on Education adopted the proposal and presented the idea to the Board. In September of 1969, the Day Care Center was opened with 26 students, a director, 3 teachers, and 2 assistants. The center stayed on Campus until the late 1980’s when the church bought the property where the current CDC resides.
The mission of the Child Development Center (CDC) is to foster a Christian environment that allows children to thrive and provide the highest level of childcare services and an excellent work environment in Central Arkansas. It is an amazing accomplishment to have been able to follow this mission for 50 years. The Center looks forward to working this mission for the next 50 years! The Child Development Center is flourishing with a total of 288 children enrolled. All infant space is reserved for the 2019-2020 school year creating a waitlist for the center.
The CDC also has a unique make-up of staff and families. With the center being in business for so long, we now have parents who attended the center as children enrolling their own children. There are teachers who have had the parents in their class and now have their children.
A few of our staff members have reached significant milestones as well:
- Brenda Clingman – 35th year this September
- Rita Hurvey – 35th year in January
- Delois Nash – 30th year in November
- Arrena Porter – 29 Years
- Venus Williams – 28 years
- Kendra Roberts – 21 years
Please help us mark our 50th Year with a visit to the CDC on Sunday, September 22nd. At 10 am or noon, everyone is invited across the street to the Child Development Center for a tour of facility and a reception.
